The TÜV Rheinland Group Teams Up with MarkMonitor to Prevent the Sale of Counterfeit Goods

TOKYO, November 4, 2008 –TÜV Rheinland Group’s Brand Risk Management service (BRM) signed a deal with MarkMonitor®, the global leader in enterprise brand protection, to offer customers the most comprehensive solution for brand protection. Focusing on the Asia-Pacific region the newly-formed alliance offers online and offline solutions to prevent the sales of counterfeit goods.

The rising level of counterfeit goods being sold poses a huge threat to global health and safety. According to the International Anti-counterfeiting Coalition, counterfeit goods make up 5%-7% of world trade. As profit margins decrease, the need for tighter product control increases.

“The detrimental effect on the economy and the inferior and potentially hazardous counterfeit products being manufactured are endangering all stakeholders. While BRM is equipped to deal with infringements in the physical world with our focus on product authentication, the relationship with MarkMonitor enables us to fight counterfeiting online and offer customers a complete solution,” said Sebastian Doose, COO, TUV Rheinland Japan.

While the BRM service includes investigations, tracking and tracing through mass serialization and product authentication via an internet-based Product Control Authentication Platform, the services of MarkMonitor complement the investigation aspect by offering online brand protection.

“The TÜV Rheinland Group is a respected organization that is recognized as a trusted brand which prides itself on safety and quality assurance, as well as anti-counterfeiting solutions. It is a great pleasure to be working with such a strong brand in Asia to help further the reach of both brands across the entire Asia-Pacific region,” said Steve Maselli, Senior Director, International Sales, MarkMonitor.
